What day is this?

I've lost track of the days. I like posting to my blog, because in a sense it lets me say some things that I might not otherwise say. While waiting for supper to be served tonight, I started writing what would be tonight's post. I didn't finish it, because the table had to be cleared for the food, but it was to be a prediction of sorts. On various topics. It doesn't do too much good, though, because I already know what happens to one of the subjects. I'll report back tomorrow...going to get some sleep. Have a great night!

And it does!

Neat!

Trying a post from email

I'm not sure why I would ever need to post from email, but should the case arrive I want to make sure it works!

Dream dream dream

Definitely had strange dreams last night.

One involved me driving from Montgomery, AL, to Atlanta, GA, only to board a plane that took me somewhere north of ATL. And when I say north, I literally mean straight up. I guess I was channeling the Jetsons in this one, because you could only get to the venue by plane. Or rocketship. A little strange, but don't worry--I have been there in my dreams before. Or maybe you should worry. ...

Happy Sunday!

It's like the song

by Alanis Morissette. One day I'm saying how easy it is to come up with blog titles and the next day I don't include a title, no matter how un-original it might be. ("Ironic" is the song, in case you were wondering.)

I finally broke down today and took some medicine for this cold I have. Had it for a few days but it's starting to wear me down. Medicine is an absolute last resort for me, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet! Have had some interesting dreams for most of the week because of the cold and tonight calls for more vivid dreams, with medicine in my system.

I'm pretty sure none of this is making sense. Gonna go now.

It is so nice out tonight!
Back to the dogs--they haven't completely gone the way of vegetarianism just yet, but they do like their new food!  Check it out here!

Hopefully this font doesn't come out too crazy....it's showing up kinda weird on the screen, but however it comes out is how it's staying!

My media player is stuck on Jason Mraz...has been for a couple of days now.  It started with "I'm Yours", and then moved to "Lucky," "Butterfly," "If It Kills Me," and has progressed from there.  Don't worry, it hasn't taken away from my undying love for my other JM::John Mayer.  I *get* JMayer's music.  I can sing and dance around to JMraz's sound, but I don't *get* everything he sings about.  Doesn't matter, I'm still digging him!   As for Mr. Mayer:

The  Mayer-Aniston postbreakup rumors aren't over yet. Supposedly, Jen has been calling John because she's still in love with him. It all allegedly started, as so many things do, after a few glasses of wine.

Even after all his not-so-great dating choices, I still find little to fault him on.  Granted, I don't know him personally, only through his music and interviews and paparazzi photos.  I do think, though, that if he would just consult me before he actually chooses who he's going to date that I could be of much help.  I would know, because, well....because I'm an expert in that area.
HA!!!   :)

I guess that's it for tonight.
And Mr. Mayer, if you're reading this, give me a call.

...it's laughter that we're making after all...

La la la ti do

I thought the hardest part of committing myself to this blog would be creating a title for each post. I have always had a mental block when it comes to titles. There are so many aspects that come in to play when making a title. Do you want it to relate to your topic, or do you not? If you have a series of writings, do you want the titles to flow together, or do you want them to each have their own identity? Does it need to reference something in the work, or should it refer to something you've previously written? What is the perfect title?

Surprisingly enough, the titles have come effortlessly. Let's hope it stays that way, because I don't want to switch to Day 11, Day 14, Day 27.

More later on how the dogs are slowly being turned into semi-vegetarians.

"The Office" is back!

"The Office" season premiere was tonight. I've never been an avid watcher of this show, but I do have the first 2 seasons on DVD. One of my favorite lines tonight was:

Michael: That's what's wrong with society.
Jim: Don't you always say there's something wrong with society? What if there's something wrong with you?

Michael: Then society made me that way.

I just discovered the kewlest thing: The stapler on my desk has storage space for extra staplers! How awesome is that? Now if I can just find where that box of staples is...

Fellow Chickens, Lend me your Skin!

Grill Girl is back.....I think.

Patience seems to be paying off, as the chicken is now cooking atop the charcoal briquets.   The funny part is that it just started raining so I have to go inside now!

...30 minutes and finished supper plates later...
...and the rain has gone away...

So yeah, the grill was my friend tonight.  Maybe I will learn how to grill that salad after all!

OOPs

When I took on the challenge of 30 blogs in 30 days, I meant that there would be a blog each day, not 5 blogs in one day.  The first four days went by without a hitch and then Day 5 came along.  And then it was gone.  Here's to a better Day 6.

Cheers!

It's Fall(ing!)

Happy First Day of Fall! In about 20 minutes or so.

Keepin' it short and simple tonight. No enlightening or endarkening words tonight.

That's all I've got. Day 4. Good night.

Grocery Store

It went something like this:

A car is stopped in front of the grocery store with the back passenger-side door open. Another car is trying to back up and people on foot are trying to navigate their way around the vehicles so they can make it safely onto the sidewalk and through the automatic sliding doors into the air-conditioned food-selling building. Here's why I wasn't completely ticked off by the car slowing down the flow of things:

A teenage boy got out of the car and was headed toward a teenage girl who was walking through the parking lot. Her shift was over and she was making her way to her car. The boy jumped out, ran over to her and gave her a huge hug. She looked shocked/annoyed/pleasantly surprised all at the same time. The conversation was brief but ended with her saying, "Talk to you later." The boy responded with, "Give me your number so we can!" Aaaahhhh.....life in a small town on a Sunday afternoon. :)

It's official: I no longer know how to work a charcoal grill. Last year I was a pro at grilling everything but salad. (Which is possible, I just never mastered it.) Now the smell of grilled meat is making its way around the neighborhood from someone else's grill. I think maybe I'm being impatient with the process.

Two more things and then I'm gonna go for now.

-Watched Tyler Perry's "Daddy's Little Girls" today. It's just hard to go wrong with a TP movie or play. If you've never seen any of the plays you can catch them on DVD. Madea wasn't in this movie, but it was good still.

-I explored the musical world of Jason Mraz today. Am loving the song, "I'm Yours" with it's laid-back style and catchy lyrics. Also think it's neat that he owns an avocado tree farm, and that you can make chocolate using avocado as an ingredient. Oh, and I love his hat. :) The things you learn from You Tube.

Until tomorrow,

Movie Reel

Day 2:

Let me preface this by saying that all I'm trying to do tonight is post a blog and grill steak.  An hour into the outside grilling, I ended up inside using the good ol' trusty GF (George Foreman).  During that hour, I started on Day 2 blog.  The autosave feature wasn't actually saving, but there are times it hasn't worked, so I kept on trucking.  Turns out the internet went out for a little bit.  Crisis averted and internet is back on now.  Yay!

I've recently found a few movies that I can actually watch over and over and still walk away with a lesson or some sage piece of advise to apply to my life each time I see them.  Or just laugh my head off.  I'm also in love with the DVR (digital video recorder) thru DirectTV, as it holds a ton of movies.  At least 20-30?  (Comcast would get full after about 5.)  So, here is an idea of what I am watching:

Lucky You

Dan in Real Life

The Linda McCartney Story

Herbie Hancock: Possibilities

Bed of Roses

What Happens in Vegas

And here are a few reasons why I'm digging these movies for now...

Lucky You - Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore star.  Huge fan of Drew Barrymore, had never heard of Mr. Bana.  Picked this movie up at Best Buy for $4 and it has been worth every penny, plus tax.  It's about a poker player (Bana) trying to figure out his life.  Barrymore is the character who shows him things in a different light.   It is not a fast-paced movie, but what I would call a relaxing pace.  I can't tell you all the reasons I like this movie, or it'll give away all my secrets.  :)

Dan in Real Life -  Steve Carell=funny.  He plays a widower raising 3 daughters.  The whole family is gathering for their annual retreat; he meets a lady that he really clicks with and who also turns out to be his brother's guest/date for the week.  So, everyone has to figure out how to deal with this situation.

Daughter: If you don't let me drive, I'll never learn.
Dan: But if I let you, you might not live.

Dan: I ordered a muffin...........but I think they gave me a small planet.

Marie (the brothers' love interest): Mitch (Dan's brother) told me early on that if I forgave him his past that he'd forgive me mine.
Dan: Well, that was stupid.

The Linda McCartney Story - Actually the story of Linda AND Paul McCartney, because who is one without the other?  I don't know how accurate the are in the movie, but I think the portrayal of how much they truly loved and cared for each other is close to the truth.  If you don't like The Beatles, or Sir Paul, or love stories, you probably want to stay far away from this one!

Herbie Hancock: Possibilities - Documentary on the making of the cd by the same name.  That's all you need to know.

Bed of Roses - I had never seen this until just a few days ago.  It was released in 1996, so I'm a little behind the times there.  Mary Stuart Masterson and Christian Slater star in it....I know her from "Fried Green Tomatoes."  Also, I'm more of a Christian Bale fan, not Christian Slater.  This definitely has sappy/chick flick written all over it.

What Happens in Vegas - Fast forward to a recent movie!  Hard to go wrong with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz.  I am a fan of Ashton, sort of a fan of Cameron, but they really do have good movies.  Couldn't wait to see this and loved it when I saw it!  There is comedy all throughout the picture, but you can also learn a little something from watching it.

What are you waiting for?  Get out and rent these movies!!  :)

Good night....need rest for inspiration on tomorrow's blog.

30 Days of Blog

I came across a site today and was inspired to take on the challenge. Here goes Day 1 in all its blogginess glory.

There are plenty of things to Blog about. Normally there is so much that when I sit down to blog my mind goes blank. So to help me stay on track, I've come up with a theme about which to write. We'll see how far this actually takes me, but since I know me the best it shouldn't be too daunting. A little haunting, maybe...... (42 days 'til Halloween---whatdya expect?) I'll write about my favorite things (until I get bored of course.) Wait--are you crying already? Bored to tears.....?....

And here we go---

Day 1: Favorite Song

"Daughters" by John Mayer

I was listening to it today and thought it would be a good way to kick off the 30-in-30. This is by far, without a doubt, my all-time favorite song. When someone asks me why this is my favorite song, this is what I like to say:

It's written by someone who is not/has never been a father/dad/parent. I don't know him personally, but from what I've read about him and seen, there are no offspring reports or sightings. And even without being a parent, he just "gets it." There are a lot of people who are parents that just don't "get it."

I recently celebrated my grandmother's 86th birthday with other members of my family. My cousin and her husband had their baby at the dinner and every body was giving their opinions and suggestions on what to do when Baby C cried. When is it okay to let her cry? When is it okay to pick her up so she stops crying? Does she have the mental ability, at 4 months, to con you into picking her? Being the only one at the table who had never raised any babies I had to get my opinion out there. My grandmother just mumbled under her breath something to the tone of "I heard that."

That story had nothing to do with the song; I just wanted to tell it.

I'm not a parent (just the looker-after of 2 dogs) so I can't tell you what "it" is, but I do know if you're a parent that you should "get it." The number of people who "get it" far outweigh those who don't, or at least I hope that's the case, but anyway....in case you haven't heard easy-listening radio anytime in the past 5 years, here are the lyrics for you:

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
She's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change
And I've done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I'm starting to see
Maybe it's got nothing to do with me
Fathers be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters too
Oh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been standing in
Since the day she saw him walking away
Now she's left
Cleaning up the mess he made
Fathers be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters too
Boys, you can break
You'll find out how much they can take
Boys will be strong
And boys soldier on
But boys would be gone without warmth from
A woman's good, good heart
On behalf of every man
Looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world
So fathers be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters, too
So mothers be good to your daughters, too
So mothers be good to your daughters, too
:)

Morning Lineup

Whenever I log onto a computer, there are two things my fingers are trained to do: Check my mail and visit eonline.com. I don't check :insert news site: near as much as I should, but the celeb news is so entertaining. Some days are slower than others, but that's to be expected. I thought I'd hop on over to msn and see what's going on tonight and wouldn't you know it? They are reporting that Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie are breaking up. The twosome are, of course, denying these rumors but it would tickle me pink if they are true! I'm finding that a lot of the rumors that get started in Hollywood, or about Hollywood-ites actually do come to fruition. I'm not a fan of the Jolie-Pitt duo, even though do have cute kids, and even though they are trying to save the world one country at a time. Oh wait--E! says they're not breaking up. Dang it! I don't have a prediction on this one. Nothing really points to why they would split..........oh well!

Heading in to eat some wings and to try the ol' sewing machine again!

Bug Spray

There's nothing like the smell of it. The "Family Friendly" scent isn't too bad. After spraying my clothes and my chair, I might as well be sitting in a tub of the stuff. It seems to be working so I'll stop complaining about the smell. I once read about a way to keep flies away from your picnic and this was to place a mixture of sugar and water away from your food and this will preoccupy the pests. All you have to do is share with them and they won't take from you! The things we can learn from flies.

So I'm in Walmart today--I know, big shocker!--and I was really excited because they had zippers, thread, buttons marked 75% off. Talk about a deal--I have a sewing machine and I have fabric and now I have zippers! I started to work on threading the machine but after an hour or so I decided to give it a rest. I apparently am not doing something right. Hopefully it'll go better tonight. The other kewl thing that happened while I was in Walmart was that the cashier was really friendly and I got to choose "Yes" when the screen asked me if my cashier greeted me today. (If you don't greet me, you don't get a "yes".) Turns out she used to live in Eagle River and worked at the Walmart there. Sadly enough, all I could think of was that was the location where I stepped in a pothole and broke my ankle and they made me pay for ice to put on my ankle! That was a couple of years after she moved away so I couldn't hold it against her.

My AHA! moment for the day:
John Mayer has a song called "Why Georgia" and it's in my Top 10 JM list. On the deeper end, I relate to it. On the shallow end, I love how he sings about driving up 85 simply because I've driven down I-85 many times myself, in a car. It wasn't until my drive back on Tuesday that I actually figured a phrase that he sings. I wasn't trying to figure because I thought I had already figured it out. Turns out he doesn't say "With all our fears alone" but rather "But all I feel is alone." So now I have to ask: What does 'with all our fears alone' mean? I've only been singing it for the past 6 years so I should know right? HA!

Banter

I love going back home to visit because of the banter that happens when a group of us gets together. "Turtle, turtle" just doesn't make sense when you say it to a complete stranger.

Crispy

There is a touch of Fall in the air and I can't be more excited! I am sitting outside in a sweatshirt and am loving it! I would actually be fine with or without it but it's just nice to be in the 60s again! (Temperature-wise, as I wasn't alive during the decade of the actual 60s.)

The dogs and I made it back home yesterday. It's an 8 hour drive no matter what you do. You can stop 3 times, or 5 times. You can time it so that you hit no rush-hour traffic, or you can time it so that you hit rush-hour traffic. It is just an 8 hour drive.

The grass is mowed (front and back) now so we don't have to look at all those blades, which is always nice! Surprisingly it wasn't too high. Mostly a bunch of weeds. Still unsightly, but not as bad as having strictly tall grass. Cattails, anyone?

So I read the gov't bailed out AIG, or at least gave a loan to them. I'm not sure it bailed them out, as I haven't read the complete story. Wow! Way to go! (Add your sarcasm here.) I don't know if that's good or not. The only good thing I can see is if AIG actually turns around and comes out of their financial crisis and repays the govt (ie, the taxpayer.) I didn't know AIG was funded by the US government? I guess this means gas prices are going to continue to go up? (Something drastic happens that has NOTHING at all to do with oil or drilling and suddenly prices surge.) Strangely enough, Diesel is actually less than gas in some places. Talk about a blast from the past! Didn't think I'd see that anytime soon.

That's all I've got for now. Getting hungry.

Too long

It's past time for a new entry here. I've been back home visiting for a few days now and just about every minute has been filled with something to do. I have learned that I have a couple of readers out there, possibly even 4, so go you! (I'd like to thank my fans...to my readers: if it weren't for you, I don't know where I'd be! -Excerpt from 2008 acceptance speech) However, now that I know you are out there reading this, there is more pressure to make this exciting.

My mom and I saw The Women this afternoon and it was cute! It's actually a remake of a 1939 classic of the same name. We were going to watch the '39 version before seeing the '08 version, but we couldn't find it anywhere.

Um, well....that's all I've got for now. Slightly hard to blog and watch a movie at the same time.
