Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone is having a great "tricks or treats" night! (Charlie Brown reference) We are enjoying the little goblins that are stopping by!

I wanted to share these pictures of our backyard!! I was outside today, enjoying the weather, when I looked out into our yard and saw the biggest spider web I have ever seen!! And I mean ever!! It's HUGE! We've had a lot of rain, so I'm not sure if it survived through the rain, or if it has been built sometime between Friday mid-day and Saturday mid-day! Tomorrow will consist of the cutting the grass for the last time this year, and spraying lots and lots of bug spray! At least it's appropriate for today! :)

Alaska - Post 1

We got into Anchorage late on a Saturday night and stayed with some friends that are still stationed up there. Sunday we walked and walked and walked around downtown Anchorage. One of the places Chris and I stopped in was a fur store. Not a fur coat store, a fur store. You name it, it was in there. Wolf, polar bear, otter, even kangaroo! The owner of the store, an Asian man in his 60s-70s, let me sit in a chair where Presidents Ford and Reagan sat at one time. (Not at the same time!) Of course, I'll never really know if that's true, but he really seemed to like those two Presidents. So, I sat! I wanted to get my picture taken, but he had a huge sign, "NO CAMERAS ALLOWED" so I didn't want to even ask. Also, he had a pendant for the University of Alabama (blegh!), but not one for Auburn. I told him he had to get one, because at that time we were on a winning streak. Amazingly, he knew all about college football though!

Here's Chris!

Here's a picture of me standing by the sun! Let me explain...
A high school student, a few years ago, decided to make a model of the solar system in the city of Anchorage, called the Anchorage Planet Walk. I am at the start of the solar-system trail. It starts with the sun and ends with pluto, a few miles from here. (This was constructed before we found out that Pluto, is in fact, not a planet.) The time it takes to travel from sun to planet to planet is on a scale of how long it would take for light to travel from sun to planet to planet in the universe. I thought this was pretty neat!

Friday Night: Fried Foods and Family!

I wanted to go ahead and get this picture up, too! When we go back to Alabama, there's this restaurant called Truman's (in Santuck) that we love going to! It's one of Chris's all-time favorite restaurants anywhere. It just so happened that my grandmother's nephew and his wife were coming to town to visit, so they were able to meet us at Truman's. After everyone arrived, we had about 20 people together. It was so much fun, and really loud (as usual!) and I'm pretty sure we ran some people out of the restaurant! :) (We had reserved the back room so we could have our own private party). To top it all off, one of their cookers was down but we were having so much fun that we didn't even notice!

Here's a picture of all of us!

Front row, l-r:
My cousin's baby, Kim (my sister), Beautiful Aunt Sarah, Mama, Stacy (my cousin), Nanny, me, my cousin's middle child, Uncle Johnny, my cousin's oldest child, Aunt Shirley.

Back row, l-r:
Drew (my nephew), my other cousin's only child, Chris, Kristen (my niece), John (Kristen's other half), Uncle David, Jonathan (my cousin), Bubba and Brenda (my grandmother's nephew and his wife), Joey (my brother-in-law).

(I didn't put the children's names b/c I'm weird like that. Yes, I know their names lol)

Here's one more pic, just for the fun of it!

Is it October already?

This past month to 6 weeks have been a whirlwind adventure. Chris and I flew to Alaska for 3 weeks (Chris) and a little over a week (me). We had such a good time and I got a ton of pics! Also, we got home from Alabama on Saturday after being there a little less than a week. I didn't get as many pictures from that trip, but we're always so busy that for some reason I never think to take pictures. Excuses, excuses, I know. And for those of you I didn't get to see, I'm sorry!

I'm not sure why I'm leading with this picture, but I am. This one was taken while we were driving by a correctional facility. It is literally in the middle of nowhere, and the prisoners were outside tending the field. You have to look hard, but they're out by the truck.

Thanks to Google Earth, here's a broader view of where the farm is located:

I won't post the 800+ pics that I have, but I will share some more later.

Happy Fall!

"Toasters!"

I just changed my blog layout and guess what? I don't like it! It'll have to do for now, because I will surely get a headache if I keep messing with it.

If you didn't see Jimmy Fallon last night, you missed out on a good show! When I was in college, I used to watch Jay Leno on a pretty regular basis. Over the past few years, I haven't watched any late night show regularly, even though I did try to tune in to Leno before his contract ran out. Of course, we didn't completely lose him because he's now on in the 9pm slot. Anyway.....I have watched a few of Jimmy Fallon's shows since he took over for Conan, and Conan for Jay. I've always liked Jimmy Fallon and thought he was funny, so a few times a month I try to tune in.

Last night, he had a full show of Monty Python. I couldn't stop laughing! Before having the members of Monty Python on, 3 contestants played a game called "Wheel of Carpet Samples" and I just might play this at my next get-together. :) If you like Monty Python, you should like this episode. If you're not a fan of Monty Python, I think you could still laugh, even at just the Wheel of Carpet Samples. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm leaving you with The Wheel. :)

Chena's "other" family

Yesterday, I loaded Chena and Charley up in the truck and we embarked on a journey to meet Chena's dad and half-brother. Ok, ok, it wasn't exactly a journey as it was only an hour ride, but we did get to meet her "other" family.

Our breeder that we got Chena from let us know that Taz, Chena's father, was going to be in the area, so I set up a meeting with Taz's owner. The owner shows her dogs and we were able to catch her in between shows. When we met her, we were surprised to see another dog besides Taz. Ducks, we found out, is from another litter that Taz had, so that makes he and Chena half-siblings.

Surprisingly, we got them to sit still on these steps long enough to snap a few pictures, thanks to the words "treat" and "ball." I picked out a couple that I liked. (Although, it really was hard to choose.....all you dog lovers know what I mean!) The first picture is of Chena, Ducks, Taz (l-r). The second is a classic picture of Chena's "aggravated" face (curling her lips), and the third is a closeup of Chena.
