Shia LaBeouf

I am a fan of Shia LaBeouf (pronounced SHY-uh LaBUFF). Not a huge fan, but a fan. I'm not really sure what has really catapulted him to the top, but I liked him in Transformers. What I'm not understanding is this story:

Sheriff: Shia LaBeouf not to blame in car crash

If he had been drinking and his alcohol level was over the legal limit, as the reports indicate, and he was the driver of the motor vehicle being operated in the crash, why wasn't he at fault? Turns out if you run a red light and are involved in an accident with an over-the-limit-intoxicated driver, you're at fault! But the other person shouldn't have been on the road at all, so here's the theory:

Driver A runs red light, while illegal, but doesn't hit anybody b/c those that are not legal to drive are not on the road. (Perfect world scenario, ok??) Theoretically, Intoxicated Driver B is not on the road, therefore should not be in an accident with Driver A. Driver B should be at fault for being on the road.

Go sip on that one for a while........ :)

I hope everybody is doing well. And I hope everybody is researching the candidates for the upcoming elections. Maybe I'm not supposed to send this because I'm having technical difficulties with getting it out. Trying now for the 3rd time......

I remember sitting in my desk in 5th grade having a discussion with a friend regarding who we thought should become the next elected President. We had had mock elections in school around the time of the real election, to give us a feel for how the process took place. The conversation went something like this:

Student 1: That was so kewl getting to vote today!
Student 2: I know! How exciting! Student 1: So who did you vote for?
(we made sure not to tell who we were voting for before the election, as your vote is supposed to be known only to you, or so we were told)
Student 2: I can tell you who I didn't vote for: Clinton!
Student 1: I would never vote for that man. I don't like him. Plus my parents said he's going to be involved in a scandal not too far from now. (Or something along those lines.)
Student 2: The only reason I'd be happy if he won is because my grandmother is pulling for him.
Student 1: Well, I still don't want him to become President.

My friend was Student 1, I was Student 2, and the rest is history. I'm typing this out because I am not sitting at a table discussing the issue with you. If there was a table, we could discuss it.

As a youngster unable to participate in the voting process I didn't like Bill Clinton. A few years later, being able to participate in the voting process I couldn't stand John Kerry. The way he points at you without actually pointing at you is very annoying and belittling to me. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, make the "thumbs up" sign and then lay your thumb horizontally on your finger. Now point at a wall or mirror with that fist. Criss Angel (A&E, Wed Nights at 10/9CST) actually does the same thing, but I'm so intrigued with him and his black nail polish that it really doesn't matter. Now, 8 years after I was first able to vote, I don't like Barack Obama. I just have a few problems with him that I can't shake. When I first heard of Sen. Obama, I actually thought, "Hey-this could be a good thing. I've got a few reservations about it, but it might be okay to step out on a limb on this one." Now the more that I see of him, the less I want to see of him. With all the scandals that have been brought his way over these past months, it seems he backs down from them and doesn't stand up for his beliefs or values. I have a problem with that. (And I'm not saying I'm perfect here!) He talks about change and quite frankly, I don't know how much change we actually need. If someone could just get the gas prices to go down please........ Also, a little on the dismal side, but people are comparing him to MLK, Jr. and JFK. Last time I checked things didn't end up so well for them. Is this country ready for a black President? I'm not sure. Is this country ready for a woman President? I'm not sure. Maybe this country is ready for a black woman President???

I don't understand the war in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Central America. Terrorism (evil) is something that has been around forever and it's still hard to tackle. But, it is currently a staple of our everyday lives. None of us know how the '08 election is going to turnout, or what sort of changes we're going to see. And no, I won't wake up in the morning wondering why in the world did I send that email?

New Math

Today, mid-day, after the guy from the jet-ski repair shop came to pick up the motocross bike and 4-wheeler......don't ask......Chris had to get to work. We stopped at McDonald's to get a bite to eat. Good thing we decided to go inside and eat because had we not, I'm afraid we would have missed our chance to learn the New Math that is taking over the country slowly but surely.

We placed our order and instead of getting a Number 10value meal, the cashier gave us and charged us for a 10-piece McNugget meal. No big deal, I just told the lady that's not what we ordered and she got the correct item. The plus side was that the meal we originally ordered and wanted and eventually got was cheaper than what we were charged. Also on the up side is that we learned the New Math. It's pretty simple. I'll explain it to you.

Meal we were mistakenly given costs $5.45
Meal we originally ordered costs $4.40

Total change due back to cUStomer $0.50

Double check all you want, but this is the change that was refunded. I'd love to have their calculator when tax time rolls around next year!

We ended up getting our $1.05 that was due to us before we sat down to eat, but just wanted to share this experience with you! Here's a toast to all the dining out we do and all the money we are giving these people!

Happy Monday!

P.S. I am happy also to report that I saw a hummingbird today after almost 3 weeks of having the feeder hanging. Yay!!

2 days in a row!

Week before last, when Chasley was staying with us, we decided to hit up Sonic on their "Half-off Burgers Day". We know all about their half-price happy hour for the drinks but had never experienced the Burger Happy Hour. We order the burgers we want and are told that only the basic burgers are on sale. OK, no big deal. So we say we want those burgers, b/c after all we are here to get them 50% off! We ask if we can have cheese on the burgers and the voice in the speaker tells us we can. OK, so we're doing pretty good.........until she tells us our total. It didn't seem right, so we did some figuring and calculating and found that she gave the burgers to us half price, but NOT the cheese. When the carhop came out, we asked her about it, actually calculated everything for her and do you know what her reply was? Do you want to take a guess?? Anything?!? She tells us that the computer calculates it and that the computer is always right. Wow! I couldn't believe it. I wanted to ask her if the dye she used on her hair seeped into her brain and caused her to forget how to use a calculator. Now we know all Sonic is good for is a slush.

It irritates me that some of today's young people can be so...ignorant. I'm sure it's nothing new but give me a break! The computer is always right? Ha! Ever heard of user error?? Ever heard of customer service? AGh!

I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday afternoon. :)

Saturday Evening

On the agenda for tonight:

Blog
Update Facebook
Upload pictures to sharing site.

Rooster is inside watching The Kingdom. I didn't start watching it from the beginning so I don't really know what's going on. I'm chilling outside with the dogs right now. It's been hot and hazy all day today...even as I look up at the clouds, they seem to be glued to the sky, not wanting to move anywhere. We did get a little bit of rain today, so that's good. Although, the chairs are still wet so I'm using a cooler as a cushion. The bugs are using me as bait.

OK, I can't take the bugs anymore. Gotta go back inside.

Hope your Saturday night is more eventful than mine! :)
